The best password is the one you can’t remember thirty seconds after creating it. That’s our motto, especially as we have transitioned to cloud-based platforms.

Creating secure passwords is one of the best ways to protect your company’s information, considering that it only takes one user with a flawed password to give thieves the access they are looking for. It’s also free. If you lack the resources for state-of-the-art security software, implementing strong passwords throughout your company can still add a valuable layer of protection to your data.

You should be creating unique passwords for each different website or platform that you work on, whether for individual or business purposes. On top of that, each password should always include different characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and punctuation.

When you’re following good password practices and creating different, complex passwords for every site you use, how can you keep it all straight? If a password is so complex that you can’t remember it, what’s the benefit of the password?

Here are some great ways to manage and protect your secure passwords.

Ways to Manage and Protect Your Passwords

Our favorite way to keep our complex passwords safe is to use safe apps. A safe app is not a three-ring binder that sits on your desk, labeled “passwords.” We all know someone who has that book somewhere. Instead, these are highly secure apps where you can store your unique login credentials for a number of sites. There are many password apps out there like SplahsID, 1Password, Dashlane, LastPass, and more. A personal tool that we use at MGA is RoboForm, which is perfect for both personal and business use.

Several browsers also have built-in password management solutions, like Chrome. If you have a Google account and use Chrome, you can sync and share passwords across your browsers. Apple Keychain is another similar example.

Programs utilizing high-level encryption or protection of your information is critical, and due diligence is essential. Also, make sure you use the hardest of all passwords to get into your password app. Don’t merely use “MyPassword1” to protect all your valuable login credentials.
