I’m sitting in the conference room at 5:30 pm on a Thursday. Across from me is an 86 year old physician. Between us is his personal tax return in all of its 73 pages of glory. We’ll go through the return line-by-line, just as we have done for over 26 years.
This is why I am where I am today — the relationships. While reviewing returns line-by-line is not the status quo, it means the world to this client, and that means the world to me. He has been with us since the beginning, and that is something that is never overlooked.I’m happy to see where the Firm is today, so many years past when Paul and I set forth to do it differently. We have assembled a great team that allows me to focus on what drives me after all these years — consulting with clients and cultivating relationships. It has not been without its share of challenges and hurdles. The industry has changed. Client needs have evolved. Technology has changed the way we interact and deliver solutions. However, with each challenge and hurdle, we’ve kept our vision looking forward, as to not trip and stumble by what is right in front of us.
It’s hard to believe I’m approaching 40 years in public accounting. It’s a great time to pause and reflect. I’m thankful for the clients and relationships that have created lifelong friendships. I’m grateful for our wonderful team that is the glue that keeps it all together. When looking at it through the rear view mirror, I think I could do it for another 40 years!
