As the Thanksgiving season approaches, it’s a great time for reflection, gratitude, and acts of kindness. Here at MGA, we’ve long embraced the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways. For several years now, instead of sending traditional Thanksgiving cards, we’ve chosen to allocate those funds toward causes that align with our Firm’s core values. This year, we are proud to direct those funds to support the [Houston Fire Department’s Annual Toy Drive](https://houstontx.gov/fire/toydrive/index.html), helping to ensure that children in need will experience the joy of receiving gifts this holiday season.
While we cherish the opportunity to give back, we also believe that generosity knows no season. There are countless ways to make a lasting difference, and we’re always seeking new, creative ways to do so. Below are some of the highlights from MGA’s efforts this year, and we hope they inspire your own journey in giving.
### **Making a Difference All Year Long: Highlights from MGA’s 2024 Community Efforts**
**Stepping Up for Houston: Our Spring Day of Service**
Giving back to the community through hands-on work is something we do year-round. In the spring, we participated in our [fifth annual spring day of service](https://blog.mgallp.com/five-years-strong-mgas-ongoing-commitment-to-beautifying-our-city-and-giving-back), once again partnering with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership to help preserve and enhance Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Park. This year, we focused on Japhet Creek, a bayou tributary that winds through the Fifth Ward.
Our team worked hard to remove invasive plant species and clean up the area, contributing to the long-term health of the park’s ecosystem. This effort is part of a larger vision by the Buffalo Bayou Partnership to revitalize the area and bring new parks, trails, and cultural spaces to the community. It was a day of teamwork, outdoor fun, and making a lasting impact on one of Houston’s most important green spaces.
**Supporting Inclusion: ReelAbilities Houston Film & Arts Festival**
For the fifth consecutive year, we were honored to sponsor the [ReelAbilities Houston Film & Arts Festival](https://www.reelabilitieshouston.org/), an event dedicated to amplifying the voices of people with disabilities. Through the power of film, art, and discussion, this festival continues to foster understanding and change perspectives in our community.
**Fun for a Cause: The 2024 Pie-a-Partner Event**
Our annual Pie-a-Partner event combined good-natured office fun with the power of philanthropy. After selling raffle tickets, two lucky winners got to [pie Partners Michael Miller and Pauline Sullinger in the face](https://vimeo.com/993498773?share=copy#t=0), all while supporting important causes. MGA matched the funds raised through the raffle, and we proudly donated nearly $1,500 to the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation, helping to advance the fight against cancer.
**Supporting Houston's Fire Department: Annual Toy Drive Donation**
Each year we proudly support the Houston Fire Department’s Annual Toy Drive. In addition to the donation of our Thanksgiving card funds, we will also continue our tradition of collecting toys within our Firm to contribute to this important cause. This hands-on involvement helps ensure that even more children in need experience the joy of receiving a special gift during the holidays. It’s a tradition we look forward to every year as we work together to bring smiles to children in our community.
**Empowering Individual Impact: Volunteer Time Off**
The motivation to make a difference in our communities extends to every team member. Through our "volunteer time off" program, employees are encouraged to dedicate time to causes that matter most to them. This initiative allows them to step away from their daily tasks and engage in meaningful community service, whether working with local nonprofits, participating in charity events, or supporting initiatives close to their hearts. By offering this flexibility, we cultivate a culture of giving where individual passions for service are supported and celebrated year-round.
### **Thank You for Your Continued Support**
As is our tradition, MGA will be closed for the entire week of Thanksgiving. This nine-day break allows our team to rest, spend time with loved ones, and return to work refreshed. We’ll reopen on Monday, December 2, ready to finish the year strong.
